Indigenous Ecnomic Autonomy

Ayse Melis Goksan

This project aims to generate income for the indigenous communities in Salar de aAtacama through the traditional methods of terrace farming of medicinal plants. Although there have been indigenous development plans, the communities still feel pressure from the government’s support on growing lithium mining. Through redeploying revenues provided from mining companies Albemarle and SQM to indigenous communities, the project is offering a way to continue previous cultivation methods and enhancing existing agriculture, to ease the collection and distribution of medicinal plants and propose a collective way to support local ways of living.
